Start Your New Home Design Pt. 1

When you begin your decorating project, there are a few things to consider before you begin:

How do you want to use the space?

Find your focal point; what do you first see when you look in the room and then enhance it? If the first thing you see is your bed; then choose a great headboard and outline it with fabulous pillow. If the first thing you see is a fireplace put a nice mirror or piece of art overhead to capture its beauty. Your focal point may be windows or a blank wall but you can capitalize on their appearance and display your style at the same time.

What size are you working with?

You have more options with a large space than a smaller space so stick with the basics like color, lighting, storage, and my favorite a nice rug underfoot.

What is your style?

This may seem more daunting than you would think. Start by clipping pictures of things you love. It may be artwork, a table, lighting, or even a color. If it caught your attention it is worth saving and before long what you truly love will emerge and give you the inspiration to begin.
